Laptop hinges carry the full weight of the screen every time you open and close the lid. When a hinge stiffens or its mounting points crack, the force goes into the plastic or metal around it instead.
Warning signs
- Creaking or cracking noises when opening the lid
- The screen bezel lifting away at one corner
- The lid flops back or will not stay open
- A gap opening between the base and the hinge cover
- The screen flickering when the lid moves
Why it spreads
Once a mount breaks, every opening pulls on the case, the screen bezel and the display cable running through the hinge. What starts as a hinge repair can become a screen, cable and case repair if it is left too long.
Good habits
- Open the lid from the centre, not one corner
- Do not carry the laptop by the screen
- Close the lid gently, especially with anything on the keyboard
The repair
Depending on the model, we replace the hinges, repair the mounting points or replace the damaged case section. We check the display cable at the same time and confirm the price before starting.
