Screen, battery and port repairs normally leave your data exactly where it is. But any repair carries a small risk, and some faults can get worse unexpectedly. A backup takes minutes and gives you peace of mind.
iPhone
- iCloud: go to Settings, tap your name, then iCloud and iCloud Backup, and tap Back Up Now
- Computer: connect to a Mac with Finder or a Windows PC with the Apple Devices app or iTunes, and choose back up
- Check photos are syncing to iCloud Photos or copy them to a computer
Android
- Google: open Settings and look for Backup under Google or System, then back up now
- Samsung phones can also back up with Samsung Cloud or Smart Switch on a computer
- Make sure Google Photos backup is switched on and finished
Things people forget
- WhatsApp chats have their own backup in WhatsApp settings
- Authenticator apps for two-factor sign-in may need their codes transferred
- Banking apps may need re-verifying after some repairs
- Notes, voice memos and files stored only in certain apps
Should you remove your passcode?
You do not have to give us your passcode for most repairs. We test what we can without it. If a full function test needs the phone unlocked, we will ask and explain why.
